History
The Beginning...
Shortly after Arthur Edward Hoskins arrived from England in 1911 he founded the firm by commencing to build mainly weatherboard & iron roof houses in the Leederville area.
These were the days of the horse drawn cart material deliveries. Later on Arthur purchased a T model ford truck which he kept until shortly before World War II.
As time went by & Perth expanded northwards, he purchased blocks of land in the Mt Hawthorn, North Perth districts & specialized by building brick & tile houses which he sold & purchased land to continue the cycle. This continued during the 1920-30's which was the depression period, however Arthur by virtue of his insistence on quality construction survived this difficult period in the history of W.A
Arthur held W.A builders registration number six (6)
During the war the firm became involved in Defence construction both in Perth & Fremantle as well as country regions such as Merriden.
Due to the great shortage of housing after the war we built numerous small housing groups & individual homes for both the state housing commission & defence service homes.
By the early 1950's the firm became involved in the construction of shops, both individual and small centres. Next we concentrated on commercial buildings of the factory, warehouse, and service station type.
Up until about 1945-46 Arthur operated from his home, but we then built a small workshop/office in the market garden area of McDonald St, Osborne Park. This is still currently our base to this day.
The Second Generation...
Arthur died in 1954 & his three surviving sons Bill, Tom & John continued the business building houses, but mainly commercial style buildings followed by renovation to refurbishments to several Perth CBD buildings as well as suburban regional centres. Bill & Tom retired in 1993 followed by John in 1997.
The Third Generation...
Ken Hoskins the son of John & Michael Hoskins the son of Tom took over from their father's and took the company into the 21st century.
