City of Stirling
The popular Balga Community Centre was one of several buildings being upgraded by City of Stirling, to ensure compliance with current accessibility standards and improve the user experience.
The site is extremely busy and sections of the facility remained operational for the duration of the project. The scope included major upgrades to the bathrooms, as well as installation of a new wheelchair access lift and refurbishment of select areas. The diversity of this scope (and movement across different building areas), presented a major challenge for the project team to deliver in just xx weeks.
Working closely with the City of Stirling, the project team developed a project schedule that facilitated business as usual activities at the site.
On commencement, the site was flooded with tradespeople and the primary refurbishment works were completed in less than 8 weeks, despite a series of minor additions to the scope. This ability to commit a large number of high quality tradespeople for a set period enabled AE Hoskins to deliver high quality work quickly and efficiently. It also enabled disruptive works, such as resurfacing of a timber parquetry floor and major demolition, to be scheduled around key events and activities.
The completed works are of a high standard, with completely reconfigured and refurbished bathrooms, refreshed main activity rooms and an upgraded lobby entry. The final outcome is an open and friendly space, that better meets the needs of building users.
