Riverton Library Upgrade

Riverton Library Upgrade

Client:

City of Canning

Location:

Riverton, WA

Duration:

5 Weeks

Budget:

$352,456

The Challenge

Riverton Library had not been refurbished since it's initial construction, in the late 1990's. The space was no longer meeting the needs of the library service and was in need of a facelift. However, as an extremely popular local facility, with hundreds of visitors each week, it was critical that the refurbishment works were completed quickly and discretely. To ensure public safety during the works, City of Canning elected to close the library for just 5 weeks, an incredibly tight timeframe to refurbish 1700sqm of space.

The Solution

On award of this Contract, the AE Hoskins team immediately commenced procurement and coordinated key trades. Our internal teams delivered the vast majority of works, which enabled us a huge amount of flexibility to resource the project quickly and effectively.

A strict project schedule was enforced, with a huge team of tradespeople mobilised to the site from day 1 of construction. Demolition works were completed 2 days ahead of plan, thanks to the hard work of this team and the project continued to progress smoothly from there.

The project team worked closely with City of Canning and select third party contractors, to ensure all works were completed efficiently and everyone remained up to date as the project progressed. This communication resulted in proactive identification of any issues that may arise and ensured the project was delivered to programme.

The completed works are a striking change from the original library. The main library floor has been completely reconfigured, with a huge reception & administration desk removed from the centre of the space and almost every component of the library has been refreshed. New wall and floor finishes, new custom shelving and furniture and stunning new lighting are the most visible changes. However, the hidden upgrades to data capacity and electrical services will have the biggest impact on library operations, enabling new self serve kiosks to be installed, as well as integrated study zones with charging stations.
