St John of God Healthcare
A staged refurbishment of two dated bathroom blocks, in a fully operational hospital environment. As an aging building, undocumented and unknown service locations and inadequate base structures were a major challenge. Each bathroom had to be stripped back to the base, to ensure new works were structurally sound, as well as aesthetically pleasing.
Working in close partnership with the St John of God project team, AE Hoskins developed a detailed staging plan, which would minimise disruption to the busy hospital ward. The project was delivered in three stages, with 90% of the works occurring out of normal operating hours.
As with any works in a healthcare environment, managing the spread of dust, noise and potential contamination of clean zones was the largest concern for this project. The team implemented a range of measures to control spread of dust, debris or noise outside of the immediate worksite; including installing airlock barriers, implementing tool and equipment cleaning protocols and strictly controlling site movement.
The final outcome is two modern and aesthetically pleasing new bathroom blocks, that meet current BCA & DDA requirements. The newly tiled surfaces are low maintenance and new waterproofing will ensure durability. The stunning new feature cabinetry (fabricated by the AE Hoskins cabinetry team) is a highlight, with high quality durable finish, that meets hospital hygiene standards.
I wanted to thank your entire project team for their hard work and contribution to making the project a success despite the many challenges along the way.
